For Veterinary Professionals

The Ultrasound Vet is a first opinion ultrasound service provided by certificate holders in diagnostic imaging. We do not have any specialist in our team, and referrals for further diagnostics might still be needed.

At The Ultrasound Vet, we aim at working with you and your team, keeping intact the bond between the client, patient, Vet and practice.
There are a lot of indications for ultrasound, and this modality is becoming more popular as a first-choice approach to many conditions and presentations.
We will invoice your practice directly, and you will invoice the client with your price.

We prepared some frequently asked questions for Vets:

How do I arrange a visit?
You can arrange a visit by filling the form here. If you have an emergency, please call and we will call you back as soon as possible.

What do I have to do?
It is very simple. After filling the form, you’ll receive an email confirming the date and time of you visit.

Here is a checklist for your practice:
1. Admit the patient at least 1 hour before the visit. This will allow you to get all the documents signed, take any blood samples you might need, calculate the sedation drugs tailored for your patient, and call me if anything changed (and you no longer need my visit, for any reason).
2. Get a consent form from the practice, and another from us (please ask for a copy if you need).
3. A quiet room/area with a table big enough for the patient on lateral recumbency and a counter/top/table for the scanner (a little bit bigger than a laptop).
4. Helping hands. Most of the time, I will only need 1 person to help me. If sedation is needed, please provide a nurse.
5. Most cats, and dogs above 10 Kg will need some form of sedation for an abdominal ultrasound. Please consider this when admitting these patients, and have an IV line already in place, if needed.
6. Please do your best to make sure the patients for abdominal ultrasound have a full bladder, and that all staff is aware of that.

Who will speak to the client?
You will. Our service is tailored to serve you and keep your bond with the client intact. We are very happy to sit down with you, review the case, and help you make decisions, but you will be the one to relay all the results and plan with the client.

When will I have the full report?
I will always relay a brief ultrasound report with the most significant findings immediately on your system, and a full report will follow until the end of that day.

Can I add an unexpected ultrasound examination on the same day?
Yes. I will do my best to see all the emergency cases and any extra cases you might have for me. Please inform me of these as soon as possible so I can re-arrange the following visits I have scheduled for the day.

Patient preparation
Abdominal Scans – shave from the xyphoid process to the caudal abdomen with very wide margins extending laterally over the last 3-4 ribs, especially on the right side. The shave needs to be clean and to the skin.

Thoracic and Heart Scans – small shaved square (5cmx5cm) in the right & left axial areas and a small square 5cm x 5cm just caudal to the xyphoid process.

Please provide a quiet, dark area to perform the ultrasound exam.

It is not required that one of your veterinary staff be present but are always welcome. Owners will not be present for ultrasound exams.
